Dominic Taddeo ‘Rochester’: NY Mobster Escapes Federal Custody
A New York (NY) mobster escapes federal custody after recently being moved to a halfway house, according to the Bureau of Prisons.
According to the Bureau of Prisons website, Dominic Taddeo, a hit man from a Rochester-area crime family, escaped on March 28. This was after going to an approved medical appointment.
Taddeo, 64, had been held at the Coleman Federal Correctional Complex in Wildwater, Florida, a medium-security prison, before being transferred to a residential halfway house in February.
He was set to be released in less than a year.
Who is Dominic Taddeo
Taddeo is a 64-year-old notorious New York mobster.
In 1982 and 1983, Taddeo worked as a hitman for hire, killing three men: Nicholas Mastrodonato, Gerald Pelusio, and Dino Tortatice.
He failed twice to take out Rochester mob captain Thomas Marotta, including in an April 1983 shooting in which he fired half a dozen shots at Marotta.
Six months later, he attacked him three more times, but Marotta escaped both attempts.
Taddeo’s appeal for compassionate release was denied by a federal judge in western New York last year, despite his argument that health issues such as hypertension and obesity put him at danger of significant COVID-19 complications.
‘Taddeo’s prior convictions are for crimes including assault, conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, and, most notably, Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization (RICO) conspiracy arising from his employment and association with Rochester’s organized crime family.’ U.S. District Judge Frank Geraci Jr. wrote.
Prosecutors said that Taddeo’s medical documents did not indicate that he was in poor health.
Dominic Taddeo Found?
Taddeo’s whereabouts are unknown at this time after the NY mobster escapes federal custody, while authorities continue their hunt.
According to a Bureau of Prisons official, he “was placed on escape status” after failing to return from a permitted medical checkup.
