In his career, Harry Maguire has been relegated five times, a record for an English player.

Following their defeat to Italy, England were relegated to Tier II of the UEFA Nations League.

Maguire played in relegated teams for Sheffield United, Hull City, and Wigan Athletic.

Sheffield United, 2011-12

Maguire was a centre-back for Sheffield United during their relegation from the Premier League to League One in 2011-12. This was Maguire’s first senior season, and he appeared in five games for the team.

Hull City, 2014-15

Maguire joined Hull City in 2014-15 after a four-year stint with his boyhood club Sheffield. He was loaned out to Wigan Athletic after only six appearances. Hull City were relegated from the Premier League to the Championship during his absence.

Wigan Athletic, 2014-15

Wigan were relegated from the Championship to League One the same season Hull City were relegated from the Premier League. Maguire is the only English player to have been relegated twice in a single season.

Hull City, 2016-17

Maguire began to play more regularly for Hull City after returning from loan at Wigan. He even led the team to a 4-2 victory over Middlesborough. Hull City were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season, despite his efforts.

England, 2022-23

After losing 1-0 to Italy in the UEFA Nations League 2022-23, England has been relegated to Tier II of the continental competition. This is the captain of Manchester United’s fifth relegation in his career.
