Dogecoin can now be used to buy things at GameStop, Nordstrom, Lowe’s, Petco and many more other stores.

Dogecoin co-creator Billy Markus known as Shibetoshi Nakamoto on Twitter said news of Dogecoin been acceptable in various stores is a big deal but “went pretty unnoticed”.

Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer, two software developers, created Dogecoin in 2013.

Billy created dogecoin, based on the Doge shiba inu meme as a parody of the known cryptocurrency bitcoin.

In a recent tweet, Markus said that he created Dogecoin in “like two hours and didn’t consider anything.”

Markus went on Dogecoin Reddit to clear up news about incorrect assumptions about his involvement and shares in the project.

“I’m no longer part of the Dogecoin project, I left around 2015 as the community started to strongly shift from one that I was comfortable with.” He said.

He added: “I don’t currently own any Dogecoin except what has been tipped to me recently, I gave away and/or sold all the crypto I had back in 2015 after being laid off and scared about my dwindling savings at the time, for about enough in total to buy a used Honda Civic.”

Markus said he left the project over 7 years ago due to harassment from the community.

Markus, 38, now works in the San Francisco Bay Area as a software developer for an education corporation.
