UIndy student, Koebe Clopton, killed in Indianapolis shooting
Koebe Clopton, A University of Indianapolis student and former football player is dead after an apparent shooting early on the northeast side of Indianapolis on September 2nd.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called around 1:15 a.m. to the 5900 block of Radnor Road, near East 46th Street and North Arlington Avenue on the report of shots fired, IMPD Officer Samone Burris said in a press release.
An IMPD Nightwatch captain at the scene told WRTV officers found a man in with at least one apparent gunshot wound outside a home when they arrived.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office has identified the man as Koebe Clopton, 20. The coroner’s office hasn’t determined the cause and or manner of death yet.
UIndy President Robert L. Manuel said Clopton was a junior and former member of the football team.
“Our primary concern is for Koebe’s family, friends, and others who are grieving his loss,” Manuel said. “We stand ready to help them with any counseling or additional resources they may need and have mobilized our counseling services to be available for anyone in our community who may need them.”
Clopton attended Morton High School in Hammond, according to his 2019 roster page posted on UIndy’s website.
He played on the team from fall 2019 to the spring of 2021, Associate Athletics Director for Communications Ryan Thorpe said in an email.
Koebe Clopton Life Celebrated by UIndy community
Members of the University of Indianapolis community gathered in Key Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 9, to honor the life of junior communication major Koebe Clopton.
The bleachers were a sea of red, Clopton’s favorite color, as attendees were asked to wear the color to honor him.
The event concluded with attendants releasing red and white balloons at the stadium’s center field.
