Who is Samantha Steele? Chicago Cook County Official Arrested in Chicago for DUI
Chicago Cook County Official Samantha Steele was arrested Sunday night and charged with driving under the influence.
Chicago, IL — Samantha Steele, a first-term Democrat and one of three commissioners on the Cook County Board of Review, was arrested Sunday night and charged with driving under the influence, according to Chicago Police records.
Steele, 45, was taken into custody at 8:49 p.m. on North Ashland Avenue and now faces a misdemeanor DUI charge.
Steele represents District 2 on the Board of Review, a key position with authority over property tax appeals for much of Chicago’s North Side and northern suburbs.
Elected in 2022 after defeating incumbent Michael Cabonargi, Steele previously served on Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi’s transition team.
Her court date has been set for Dec. 27. Steele, who resides in Evanston, did not respond to requests for comment.
The arrest follows recent controversy surrounding Steele, as her aide Frank Calabrese filed a federal whistleblower lawsuit against her and her chief of staff.
