Gary Church Shooting: 1 dead, 1 injured

Two men, both 41, were shot after a gunman opened fire on a crowd after a funeral in Gary, Indiana.

Lots of cars were filled with bullet holes at the parking lot outside St. Monica and Luke Church, in the 600 block of Rhode Island Street.

Police said The fatal victim was from Merrillville and the wounded victim is from Gary and is in stable condition.

The Diocese of Gary said in a statement that a family had gotten permission to rent the church’s parish hall for a repast following a family member’s burial.

The family who rented the space was not a parishioner, according to the bishop.

Bishop Robert McClory said, “We pray for the family and their loved ones may be comforted as they begin to process this terrible tragedy,” 

Gary Mayor Jerome Prince offered his condolences saying “It is beyond compression how anyone can attack a family already in mourning.”

No one has been arrested or in custody.
