Ghana is celebrating its independence day today, March 6th and Ghanaians took to Twitter to celebrate the national day with “The Flag, The Face” challenge.

What is the “The Flag, The Face” challenge about?

The Twitter challenge is all about matching your face with your country flag.

Ghana 64th independence celebration

Amid the covid-19 pandemic, the celebration of Ghana’s 64th independence might be done virtually to curb the spread of the virus.

“doing the annual parade in rising covid-19 cases will not be safe as it will be a venue for the spread of the virus which has claimed the lives of more than 500 people in the country.” Peter Toobu, former Executive Secretary to a retired Inspector General of Police said.

However, because the 64th independence falls on a weekend, the President declared Monday, 8th March 2021, as a Public Holiday.

“In view of the fact that 6th March 2021 falls on a Saturday, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has by Executive Instrument (E.I), in accordance with section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2001 (Act 601) declared Monday, 8th March 2021, as a Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.” statement read.
